Brunelleschi’s fortress in Vicopisano

In the centre of Vicopisano’s historic centre is the magnificent fortress known as La Rocca.

The brainchild of the Renaissance engineer Brunelleschi, this impressive feat of Renaissance engineering was designed to both trap and defeat the enemy.

Brunelleschi’s Medieval masterpiece is both fascinating and intriguing and for a small entrance fee visitors can take a guided tour with either local historian Professor Giovanni Fascetti or one of his team.

Enjoy a couple of hours discovering the history and anecdotes surrounding this incredible building.

This is a wonderful opportunity to visit an historic monument without bounds! Visit the dungeons, climb the impressive watchtower and get a bird’s eye view of the surrounding countryside.

Children and adults alike will delight in trying on the burnished armour and handling the Medieval weapons.
