If this is a once in a lifetime visit to Europe or a first time discovery to Italy sometimes it’s better to find a base for a week or two and travel from the comfort of your home away from home.

From Tuscany there are many other exciting discoveries which are not too far away.
Below we have listed just a few of the places our guests have ventured out to!

Cinque Terre
Cinque Terre basically means ‘five lands’ and refers to the picturesque fishing villages clinging to the coastal mountains of Liguria. You can visit each of the five villages by walking or trekking from village to village or by taking a small train or even a passenger ferry.

To get to La Spezia – the gateway to the Cinque Terre – the journey will take approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. From La Spezia you can park the car close to the railway station and take the train or boat to each of the villages.

Isola d’Elba (Elba Island)
A beautiful island not far from the mainland of Tuscany. Here you will find something for everyone – beautiful scenery, breathtaking drives, quaint villages but more than anything else some of the best beaches in the whole of Italy.

Elba of course is also famous for being the island to which Napoleon was exiled. Once on the island you can see his former residences, which are beautiful stately homes filled with Napoleonic artifacts.

To get to the island you pick up a ferry from the port of Piombino which will take you about 1 hour and 20 minutes from the Vicopisano area.

Portofino 2 hours and 15 minutes
Assisi Just under 3 hours.
Rome 3 and a half hours driving – high speed trains from Florence 1 hour 3 minutes
Venice Just under 4 hours – high speed trains from Florence 2 hours 5 minutes
