Beaches and Coast Line

In the hot summer months, a day at the beach can be a welcome break after days of sightseeing and crowded cities.

There are sandy beaches, pebbly beaches, and places where you can just swim off the rocks. The nearest beaches can be reached in just over 30 minutes at Marina di Pisa, Tirrenia, and Clambrone. Like most beaches in Italy, the above beaches are mainly organized meaning they have sun loungers, sun umbrellas, bathrooms, showers, possibly a bar or restaurant, and more importantly a lifeguard.

There is also what is known as free beaches (Spiaggie Libere) where you just turn up with your towel and sun cream!

If you like your beaches un-organized and natural then Marina di Vecchiano is the perfect destination and can be reached in approximately 45 minutes. Vecchiano is also part of the Monte Pisano.

The 4 km stretch of unspoiled free beach is set in the beautiful nature reserve of San Rossore Massaciuccoli against a backdrop of mountains topped with what looks like snow but which is actually marble.
