Overview
Il Fortino – Appartamento Galileo is a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment on two floors and is one of five self-contained apartments recently and lovingly restored by its owners who are passionate about the historic preservation of this Medieval building in the historic centre of Vicopisano. This apartment was originally the Captain’s house – the Captain was responsible for guarding the building. On the first floor are the living room, kitchen, and one bathroom and up an ancient stone stairway to the second floor, you will find the 3 bedrooms and another bathroom.
To stay within Il Fortino – is like stepping back in time. Il Fortino was once a small fortress with Roman and Medieval origins however it was modified during the Renaissance period by none other than the famous architect and engineer Filippo Brunelleschi.
Appartamento Galileo, like every other self-contained apartment within this former fortress it has retained many original features such as exposed stone walls, chestnut wood-beamed ceilings, and terracotta floor tiles. The apartment shares a charming outdoor space close to the pool which is an absolute treasure to find in the heart of a Medieval centre. Each apartment has its own dedicated sun loungers and sun umbrella as well as a personal cell phone charger point. There is also a communal terrace for al fresco dining with enough tables and chairs for each apartment. In addition, there is also a large communal kitchen close to the pool terrace where we can organise cooking experiences and private parties.
To stay at one of the apartments of Il Fortino is like living with history – each room had a purpose in its Medieval and Renaissance heyday which history lovers will adore!

Description
BEDROOMS
BEDROOM 1- The romantic main bedroom of the apartment with an exposed stone wall has two large windows that offer a breathtaking view of the Medieval village of Vicopisano. There is a beautiful wood canopy bed, an antique wooden chest at the foot of the bed, a wardrobe, and a Medieval chandelier.
BEDROOM 2- This bedroom has two sets of bunk beds which sleep 4 people. There is a triple aspect of windows, satellite and cable TV and a fridge which serves this floor with its 3 bedrooms.
BEDROOM 3- This charming bedroom has a large four-poster bed, a double aspect of windows that looks out on the Medieval courtyard, and the swimming pool. There is also a wardrobe and an antique wooden chest.
LIVING AND LOUNGING SPACE
This bright airy room has large windows looking out onto the Medieval Court and the Tuscan garden. There is a large comfortable leather sofa, TV and fireplace.
BATHROOMS
Bathroom 1- This bathroom has a large shower, toilet, bidet, and typical stone sink mounted on an antique sewing machine table.

KITCHEN
The traditional rustic Tuscan kitchen consists of a sink set into a large countertop, induction hob, fridge, and dishwasher set into the built-in kitchen. You will find a microwave, kettle, toaster, and everything required to prepare a delicious Tuscan dinner. There is a large extendable Tuscan-style table and chairs for dining and a Medieval chandelier.
GROUNDS, POOL, AND OUTSIDE AREAS
The Medieval resort has a private courtyard garden and pool area. These areas are shared only with the other residents of the resort of which there are 5 apartments. Each apartment has a dedicated sunlounger, sun umbrellas and a USB/cell phone charging point, and Wifi. There is also a pretty patio area with tables and chairs for each apartment and a communal kitchen where cooking experiences can be organized. The grounds outside the resort form a Medieval court where light entertainment such as musical concert nights is planned for the summer. Please contact us for more details of the program.
ACCESS AND PARKING
Free parking is available at the edge of the historic/pedestrianized area just a short 5 minute walk away. Parking is available in the streets or in one of two car parks which are approximately a 5 to 10 minute walk away.
