Overview

Il Fortino – Appartamento Filippo is a one-bedroom apartment on the first floor (second level) and is one of five self-contained apartments recently and lovingly restored by its owners who are passionate about the historic preservation of this Medieval building in the historic centre of Vicopisano. This apartment has been converted from the former stables.

To stay within Il Fortino – is like stepping back in time. Il Fortino was once a small fortress with Roman and Medieval origins however it was modified during the Renaissance period by none other than the famous architect and engineer Filippo Brunelleschi.

Appartamento Filippo, like every other self-contained apartment within this small Medieval fortress , has retained many original features such as exposed stone walls, chestnut wood-beamed ceilings, and terracotta floor tiles. The apartment shares a charming outdoor space close to the pool which is an absolute treasure to find in the heart of a Medieval centre. Each apartment has its own dedicated sun loungers and sun umbrella as well as a personal cell phone charger point at the pool. There is a private terrace for al fresco dining. In addition, there is also a large communal kitchen close to the pool terrace where we can organise cooking experiences and private parties. To stay at one of the apartments of Il Fortino is like living with history – each room had a purpose in its Medieval and Renaissance heyday which history lovers will adore!

Description

MASTER BEDROOM
This bedroom has great charm with its large romantic four-poster bed, chestnut ceiling beams and exposed stone walls dating back to the first Roman settlement. This room in the Middle Ages was the residence of the Messenger responsible for the pigeons. The room is furnished with wrought iron lamps, a period wardrobe and wooden trunk.

LIVING ROOM
This is a bright airy space due to the feature window looking out over the courtyard and has a high chestnut beamed ceiling and terracotta floor tiles. The large leather soft opens out into a king-size bed.

KITCHEN
The traditional Tuscan rustic kitchen has everything required to prepare a delicious Tuscan dinner: a large countertop and an induction hob, fridge and dishwasher are located in the wooden built-in kitchen. There is a microwave, kettle, toaster, iron and ironing board. The feature window overlooks the surrounding countryside.

BATHROOM
The bathroom is located under a Medieval arch and has a large shower, toilet, bidet and sink. The sink is mounted on an antique sewing machine table.

GROUNDS, POOL, AND OUTSIDE AREAS

The Medieval resort has a private courtyard garden and pool area. These areas are shared only with the other residents of the resort of which there are 5 apartments. Each apartment has a dedicated sunlounger, sun umbrellas and a USB/cell phone charging point, and Wifi. There is also a pretty patio area with tables and chairs for the other apartments and a communal kitchen where cooking experiences can be organised. The grounds outside the resort form a Medieval court where light entertainment such as musical concert nights is planned for the summer. Please contact us for more details of the program.

ACCESS AND PARKING

Appartamento Filippo is situated on the first floor (second level). Free parking is available at the edge of the historic/pedestrianized area just a short 5 minute walk away. Parking is available in the streets or in one of two car parks which are approximately a 5 – 10-minute walk away.
